Garden Update April 23rd

Mint

It's amazing to see what a difference a few weeks can make in the garden. We had no rain for nearly 3 weeks and the soil is so dry. My berry bushes are thriving and so is the cherry tree. It's wonderful to see everything come alive after a strange, wet and long winter.
I have spend the last weekend planting 100 onion bulbs and a row of radish and that was about as much as I was physically able to do. The peas and carrots that I had hoped to plant need to wait for a few more days. The early lettuce that I planted is coming along nicely and so are the herbs. I have decided to raise my herbs in pots this year and so far it looks like a good decision. I do hope for a bit of rain, so I can start to work on the second part of the garden but would also nod mind another sunny weekend, so I can have a bit of a BBQ

Yesterday has been a beautiful and sunny day. It felt like truly the first proper day of spring. A day that was spend more outside then inside. A day were I was running around bare-feet on the grass and it felt soo good. My seeds are coming around nicely and the weeding and prepping of the soil is taking shape. The strawberry plants are getting bigger and so is my belly. It is difficult for me that I am not able to do much in the garden right now and that I have to rely on others to help and do a lot of the heavy work. I hope that by the end of next weekend I will have the fall onions and first row of peas in the soil and that the rest of the garden is prepared and weed free. I am planning on setting up three raised beds in May, those will be used for salad, cucumbers and cabbage as well as kohlrabi.
My pregnancy is going as well as can be expected. I have 6-7 weeks left but if the twins stay in until first or second week in May I will be very happy. It's getting more difficult for me to move around and do much at all right now and I am easily out of breath just from walking to the doctors office and back to the car. But I can't complain, there are others with twins that have a much harder time then me.

The last 2 weeks have been a mix of warm sunny days, followed by days that had been cold, with a mix of rain and snow and frost in the night. Seeing the garden, there is so much to do and physically I am not able to do much. I have started some seedlings indoors and mulched the berry bushes and that is about it. I had someone help to clear the weeds between the strawberries and mulch them with fresh straw but much more has not happened yet. The weather is still to unpredictable at the moment. Once we move past Easter, I hope to plant a row of early peas, as well as carrots and radish. But as you can see above there is still a huge lot of land covered in weeds that needs to be worked on as quickly as possible.  The main question is when and by whom.

Are you doing anything in the garden yet?

Spring is in the air

planted a new blueberry bush

started seedlings

onions coming

my new blueberry bush
It looks as though spring is in the air (finally). We didn't have much of a winter but it was still very cold and wet, too wet to be honest. My garden looks more like a mud pit then anything else. Now the temperatures have gone up a bit and the sun is out, which is nice. I was able to plant my blueberry bush and hung out the washing and have it dried within a couple hours.

There is not much I can do anymore. I am already having Braxton Hicks contractions since week 25.5 and now I have been put on an employment ban from my doctor until the beginning of my maternity leave in 6 weeks. So lot's of rest and magnesium for me and hoping that the boys will stay in for a little while longer. I am still allowed to be at home, just need to make sure that I rest most of the time. During the last week and a half, I have noticed that things are getting more difficult for me physically/ I am not able to sit comfortably for too long and I am getting tired easily. The twins itself are growing nicely and are right on track weight wise, so no worries there. I am 28 weeks now and hope to make it for another 10 weeks. We will see.

What are you up to these days?

34

Yesterday I turned 34, my birthday was celebrated quietly just like I wanted. It's my last birthday without kids and all my presents revolved around presents for the twins (just as I had hoped).
