Garden Update June 4th

The last two days have been warm, with temperatures soring up in the high 80s low 90s (F). The days before that were still cold but at least the heavy rain has stopped. The ground is hard like concrete, so I was very thankful that today was my day off and I was able to spend time in the garden, weeding and loosening the ground. I have also been cutting some of the high grass and am trying to make hay out of it. It's the first time I am attempting to make it myself. I usually buy they hay from one of the farmers around here, as I don't have the space to make the large amount that I actually need but every little helps, so I thought I might as well to try to use the high grass for it instead of putting it on the compost.

The berries are growing and I hope that we will have some sunshine now, so that they can actually turn red soon.

The boys and the lady

While I was cleaning out the rabbit house, I did a quick check to see if Mia was pregnant from Muckel but it was a negative, so I decided to put Mia and Thumper together, as Muckel is a bit too young for this anyway. The two of them got on well, so fingers crossed that this worked.

The rabbits are all doing well. Thumper is a big happy chap, he enjoys coming out of his house (he is usually on the bottom one) and whenever I feed him, he opens the door and follows me around.

Muckel is very similar, he has grown so much from the little fluff ball that he was. He is the friendly chap that comes out to greet me and wants a cuddle whenever I go to see him.
Both boys are very friendly with my dog Jessie and Jessie loves the boys too.

Mia is the lady of the bunch. She is not as outgoing as Muckel or Thumper and a bit more reserved but I can still easily pet her.

I am pleased with all three of them and how they turned out so far. Just hoping for baby rabbits now :)

New job

After being unemploed for a month, I started my new job today. I had an interview for this job on Thursday last week and was offered the job on Friday. I am now working part time (2.5 days per week) in a tax office. I am very pleased about this for several reasons: I got a chance to go back to my roots (I done my appreticeship in a tax office and worked in a tax office prior to moving abroad), I get much needed income, the fact that it's part time means I have enough time left to work on the homestead, something that I could not do in my last job. I also have the chance to work from home office, something that is seldomly done in this industry.
My first day was great, the people in the office are very nice and my boss is very relaxed about lot's of things too. Seems like I have done well for myself on this occasion.

Garden Update May 30th

It's been a very rainy week and I was afraid the garden might be drowing... It stopped raining yesterday, so I was out today, to check on the garden and to get you an update.

best part.. harvested some rhubarb and and added some frozen strawberries :)

The little stream

There is a little stream where I live and where I am taking the dogs for a swim quite often. During the rain season, that little stream turns into a big one and used to flood the village and next town on countless of occasions. 15 years ago, a dam was build, so that the water is collected in a massive field during the heavy rain and it can be controlled how much water is released, so that floodings can be avoided.

The last 3 day we saw constant rain and even the week before that was quite a lot of rain, tonight was the first instance where it stopped raining for more then an hour, so I went out quickly to gather these pictures of what the little stream looks like now...

I have been in and out of the garden on a daily basis lately. The last 5-6 days had a day of sunshine followed by heavy rain, followed by sunshine followe by heavy rain and so on. When the sun was out, I was outside to loosen up the ground between the seeds, to ensure the water can drain properly. All the work was sucessfull and the seeds that I plante just 1 week and a half ago are coming out nicely. There is so much going on at the moment in the garden and I love how quickly things are turning from nothing to seedlings coming out. I had the first radish that I planted in April yesterday and as you know the first pieces of rhubarb last week. Every day the garden becomes a little more green and for that I am very grateful
